| In the United States, the disease of alcoholism is shockingly pervasive. It directly affects about 12 to 14 million Americans, with millions who are affected by actions of alcoholics. Many people ask, What are the indicators of a problem with alcohol? There are many indicators - including drinking alone, finding excuses to drink, having to drink in order to function, hiding alcohol, denying or minimizing the amount one is drinking, and shaky hands in the morning are some. Alcoholism is a disease, but it is also a symptom - an indicator of someone who is suicidal. By being an alcoholic, the person is already displaying self destructive behavior. Alcoholics drink due to the fact that when they are imbibing is the one time the believe they are actually happy and able to (for the moment) set aside their worries. A drunk is not in control of themselves and is, therefore, lacking in the thought processes or mental faculties to fight suicidal ideas.In too many instances, such events result in attempted suicide.This is so bad that 1/3 of all people who killed themselves had alcohol in their system at the time of their death. Suicide is a very troubling point for alcoholics, whose risk level for attempted suicide is dramatically higher than the general population. Ifsomeone Sadly, alcoholics can also be emotionally, verbally, or even physically abusive to their friends and family, which leads to an increased risk of suicide among them. | |
